We were at Amalia's splended hacienda this week. I like the change from the long views that we have had at Jan's and Joyce's to the intimate views of the patio, fountains and plants.
Here are two starts to courtyard paintings.

Joyce Verduzco
They both have great starts to observational paintings. Here is a very nice start to a painting at Dolly's from last week that Joyce did also. I think the plum tree is brilliant.

Cathy Baca continued on a large painting started at Dolly's. She is really developing the foreground and has great depth in the flowers. It's coming along with great success. Just another day or so and it will be finished.

We also had some glaze painting going on. Jan finished her's and I didn't potograph it. It's beautiful and it will be the first thing I post next week. I'm sorry Jan! I was so excited about it , I just didn't get a photo.
And here is Susan Frommer's glaze painting. She will start with the opaque reds during the week.

We have such a good time during class but I am always wanting students to learn something and Amalia volunteered, well sort of volunteered for an exercise enjoyed by Jan Pierce a few months ago. She completed this painting in one hour.

5" x 7"
She was looking at a pot of red geraniums in the sunlight and the painting was just about the saturated reds and greens and how they changed from light into shadow. She didn't need to worry too much about rendering the exact shape of each flower of leaf. She just captured the light. This is also a good way to start a painting- block out the lights and shadows, then come back for more detail.
And another darling dog painting from Judy.
