More notes on glaze painting

We had to cancel our painting class at Goldreyers because it was raining. Susan graciously let us come over and we worked on Glaze Painting. We have a new class member, Susan Jenkinson.
Welcome Susan!
I should also say that Laura braved the weather and got started on an interesting architectural landscape. Susan's garden is spectacular right now.

Anyway.... the first step in glaze painting is to get a complete underpainting in burnt sienna. I didn't get a photo of Susan's but will include that next week.

I did a little painting in the studio on Saturday as a demonstration. It's very important to let the canvas dry in between layers of glaze. It's fun to apply it and so tempting to add another color before the first one is dry but not a very good idea. The first image is the underpainting, second with the first layer of ultramarine blue and then with a coat of alizarin crimson.

And finally here is a photo of Dolly's latest.
